In the recent months, Lubelskie Region started to update the Lubelskie Voivodeship Development Strategy. Territorial approach, including support for functional urban areas (FUAs), was one of important topics of an open debate. Following the meetings and discussions on the regional urban policy, the partnership established by municipalities within Lublin Metropolitan Area appeared to be the most active, effectively using ITI funds resources in the current perspective.

Furthermore, it should be stressed that representatives of 21 communes and 5 counties signed this year a letter of intent about further cooperation in the framework of the Lublin Metropolitan Area. Then, it assumes enhanced cooperation within the partnership and preparation of a common territorial strategy for the whole area. Next, further investments serving metropolitan residents will be possible, in continuation with the undertakings under ITI in years 2014- 2020. The future strategy will focus on i. a. build-out and integration of transportation systems development of integrated social policy, with regard to forecaster demographic changes especially considering the elderly and the disabled, also regarding adaptation to climate change until the year 2030. Investment projects will supplement actions in the areas of education and social inclusion.

Importantly to note, discussions between regional authorities and the partnership are happening simultaneously with works on establishing a support system for functional areas at the national level. The talks on support for functional areas with other cities are planned in the near future.
