1st INVALIS stakeholder meeting by the Regional Ministry for Environment and Rural, Agricultural Policies and Territory - Regional Government of Extremadura (Extremadura - Spain)
On March 18, the main sectors of Extremadura involved in the introduction, spread and management of invasive alien species have met at the School of Public Administration of Mérida.
This meeting is the first in a series of 6 meetings that will take place throughout the development of the Interreg Europe INVALIS project "Protecting European biodiversity of invasive alien species". One of the aims of this project is to improve the legislation on invasive alien species and promote coordination among the different sectors involved in its management and spread.
This first meeting had a great participation by the main key sectors involved. More than 53 representatives of 37 entities related to research, management of communication routes and hydraulic media, NGOs, Agents and security bodies, communication, the livestock sector, municipalities, councils, Administration, beekeeping sector, etc. have attended.
In the morning, the INVALIS project has been presented together with basic issues related with invasive alien species, such as their impact, introduction pathways or existing legislation. This has given way to the presentation of the entities that have attended and their participation and future contribution to the fight against this serious environmental, economic, social and health problem.
