Promotion of the LAND –SEA on a Workshop on shoreline and erosion prevention on Adriatic, Aegean, Mediterranean and Black Sea coasts gathers international experts in Varna
Regional Governor of Varna Stoyan Pasev hosted an international workshop organized within the framework of the newly-launched project "HERMES - Harmonized Framework for Prevention and Prevention of Coastal Zone Erosion, Encouraging the Implementation of the Integrated Coastal Zone Management Protocol (ICZM) Balkan-Mediteranean "of the EU. The project is implemented by Association of the Bulgarian Black Sea Municipalities with the support of the Regional Administration of Varna and in partnership with the municipality of Paggaio, Greece (leading organization), Democritus University of Thrace - Department of Environment, Greece, ORION - Joint Research and Development Center, Cyprus, TEULEDA, Local Economic Development Agency, Albania, Environmental Policy Institute, Albania and Cyprus Cypriot Municipality Association, Cyprus. HERMES is a joint initiative of six organizations covering over 280 km of coastline from the Adriatic, Aegean, Mediterranean and Black Seas and is geared to supporting local authorities in finding concrete and viable solutions.
During the meeting Mr. Stoyan Pasev stressed the importance of the project "Sustainability of the Land-Sea System for Ecotourism Strategies", in which the Regional Administration is a partner.
In a media briefing, Stoyan Pasev underlined the significance of promoting effective regional governance processes so as to increase and motivate the creation of knowledge and skills to develop a sustainable coastal system. The specific objectives are to link the protection and promotion of cultural and natural heritage with coastal protection plans, risk assessment - mapping and development of tools for monitoring cultural and natural heritage, early warning and conservation measures, green jobs in tourism, realization of the unexplored potential of cultural and eco-tourism.
Impressive are the project partners - River basin management basin of the Luri River - Garrillano and Voltourno (River Valley Region in the Southern Apennines) - Italy - project coordinator, Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, Germany, Barcelona Urban Ecology Agency - Spain, Autonomous Government of Catalonia - Spain, Molise Region - Italy.
Varna Regional Administration will exchange experience with partners on topics related to the development and promotion of sustainable and responsible eco-tourism, the conservation, restoration and sustainable management of coastal marine areas.
Interregional cooperation will provide ideas for introducing best practices. Sharing knowledge and experience will contribute to increasing local capacity for sustainable coastal ecosystem management.
The final result of the implementation of the project activities will be the development of a regional action plan for coastal management and the sustainable development of ecotourism. In the process of preparing the strategy paper, the team will be assisted by local stakeholders.
