Vila Nova de Gaia Municipality, partner of the LOCARBO project attended the Climate Change Leadership Summit in Porto (Portugal) on 6th July.

This international Summit created a unique convergence of knowledge, wisdom and inspiration, bringing together some of the world's leading scientists and authorities on climate change and environment.

The honorable panel of key speakers counted with the presence of Mohan Munasinghe (former vice-president of the IPCC and winner of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize), Irina Bokova (former General-Director of UNESCO), Juan Verde (president of the Advanced Leadership Foundation and specialist in green economy), and President Barack Obama (44th President of the United States of America).

This event was a joint initiative of public and private entities, namely wine industry companies that aimed to bring awareness, share good practices and call to action on climate change policy.

The main outcome of this Summit was the signature of the “Porto Protocol”, a voluntary movement encouraging the participants to adopt principles and measures towards a common goal: the minimization of the impacts of the climate change.
