Partners and stakeholders of the P2L2 project met in Rzeszów, Poland to discuss the status of the project, plan future activities and learn about the polish policy instruments. The meeting is part of a series of study visits to various partner locations across Europe.
Rzeszów is located in the Podkarpackie region in Poland and is the location of the Aviation Valley, one of Poland’s largest aviation clusters.

Discussion on the Polish Regional S3 Stragegy
A panel discussion was held to discuss the role and potential of the Aviation Valley in the implementation of the RIS3. Changing markets and shifting industries present many new challenges to the aviation field.
"Implementing Smart Specialization Strategies"
Krzysztof Mieszkowski, from European Commission Joint Research Centre (JRC) in Seville, presented the guidebook “Implementing Smart Specialization Strategies”. The book is a pragmatic and useful guide for stakeholders taking part in smart specialization. The handbook takes stock of the Smart Specialization experience and presents its current state of the art, both in terms of conceptual developments and practical implementation.

Visit to Pratt & Whitney
Pratt & Whitney is one of the leading players in the Central Europe aerospace industry. During the visit, company representatives explained to the project partners the benefits of being part of the regional ecosystem.
Visit Rzeszow University of Technology
Project partners met with the Rzeszow University of Technology's "Legendary Rover Team". This student team from the university won the University Rover Challenge (URC) in 2016, 2015, and won 3rd place in 2014. The URC is the world famous robotics competition for college students where they are tasked to design and build the next generation of Mars rovers.
The accomplishments of the Legendary Rover Team owe a lot to the R&D activities that take place within the university.
Visit to PZL Mielec, A Sikorsky Aircraft Company
PZL Mielec, A Sikorsky Aircraft Company, is the biggest Polish manufacturer of aircraft. Their current product line includes the famous Sikorsky BLACK HAWK (TM) helicopters.
During the visit, project partners learned about the role of PZL Mielec in the regional ecosystem, their interactions with the academic and research institutions of the region, the supply chain alliances and the financing and intellectual property rights.
Visit to Aeropolis Podkarpackie Science and Technology Park
Aeropolis Podkarpackie Science and Technology Park is place for growing small, medium and large enterprises focused on introducing innovative and technologically-advanced products or services on the market. Within it are zones dedicated to academic pre-incubation, incubation and investment.
Project partners visited the infrastructure and facilities to learn how they support the start-ups within their walls.
