On Friday, April 26, 2019, the Center for Eco-Efficient Materials & Technologies was opened in the Bremen Airport City. Around 500 experts from business and science will be working together on projects in the new building. 
“Researching, developing and working together is a tradition in Bremen - not only is ECOMAT a solid base, it is an essential building block in North German aviation and a milestone in the development of materials research," said Martin Günthner, Senator for Economics, Labor and Ports.
Günthner, together with Michael Göbel, Managing Director of WFB Wirtschaftsförderung Bremen GmbH, presented the symbolic key to Jean-Brice Dumont, Executive Vice President of Engineering at Airbus. Airbus is the main tenant in the new R&D center, where around 22,000 square meters will be devoted to new developments around the key technology of lightweight construction, innovative materials and surface technology.
In addition to Airbus, TESTIA GmbH and Faserinstitut Bremen eV (FIBER) as the main tenants, other tennants include industrial partners, medium-sized companies and scientific institutions such as the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Applied Materials Research (Fraunhofer IFAM)and the German Aerospace Center (DLR).
The fiber institute FIBER, whose R & D infrastructure for the new site was co-financed by ERDF funds, will be operational in the building next week.
ECOMAT is a project of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen with Airbus and other partners.
