Hydrogen initiatives in Piemonte
Environment Park with the co-operation of Piemonte Region, the Metropolitan City of Torino, Polytechnic of Torino, the municipal transport company and the Italian leader for hydrogen production, set up the Hydrogen System Laboratory (HYSY_LAB) finalised to research and development activities on hydrogen. The most important ongoing projects will be illustrated and a large space will be given to Q&A.

Energy Communities
The Piemonte Region issued a Law in 2018 with the aim of promoting the establishment of Energy Communities. After the launch of a call for financially supporting the establishment of EC, four pilot projects are now being developed. A short presentation will give an overview of the national and regional legislative framework and of the progress which the pilot projects are achieving in drafting their energy balance and energy strategy as well as the problems they are facing.

Financing schemes using ERDF
Piedmont Region is managing a relevant amount of ERDF resources aimed at Supporting the shift towards a low-carbon economy in all sectors. Under that priority, it is envisaged to reduce primary energy consumption of public buildings and to spread innovation in the production systems, by using energy efficiency solutions and renewable energy sources. The discussion will allow to focused on the key role of a wisely management of public funds on the way to carbon neutrality.

District heating networks (DHNs) are crucial infrastructures for the implementation of energy efficiency and CO2 reduction plans, especially in countries with continental climate. The presentation will also explore the potential to perform system optimization and development potentially foreseen.

Organic waste biogas to methane + CHP + DHS
Thanks to the partnership between HYSYTECH and Acea Pinerolese Industriale, a new biomethane plant in Piemonte, which treats up to 1,500 Standard cubic meters per hour of biogas, was recently opened, thus integrating the first plant in Italy producing pipeline biomethane from municipal organic waste, which is operating since 2014.

Back to back with the management of regional structural funds, several initiatives promoting Public Private Partnership have been launched with the aim at mobilizing private investments by using Energy Performance Contracts (EPC).
