During two days, 20th-21th October 2020, Slovak Innovation and Energy Agency (SIEA) in Bratislava organised Virtual thematic seminar within the international project SHREC (Shifting Towards Renewable Energy for Transition to Low Carbon Energy), financed by Interreg Europe programme.

SIEA succeeded in gathering several experts from the public and private sector who dealt with the topic of Slovak national policies in the field of renewable energy sources and climate change mitigation and tools used for their successful implementation.

Mr. Stanislav Laktiš, Project Manager, SIEA, SK and Mrs. Rima Dijkstra, Project Manager & Lead Partner, Hanze University of Applied Sciences, NL opened the seminar. First day, the seminar focused on Slovak national policies related to RES and EE. There were presented contributions as Slovak National Energy and Climate Plan, and Energy Efficiency in Slovakia by experts from the Ministry of Economy of Slovak republic. Then followed the speakers from the Ministry of Environment of Slovak Republic with their main topic: Climate change mitigation policies and SIEA representatives who gave some information about Operational Programme Quality of environment. The first day was closed by presentations of Mr. Zamkovsky, CEPA – Friends of the Earth and Mr.Robl, Buildings for future Association, who gave several examples of good practises and initiatives in Slovak Regions.

The Second day of Thematic Seminar was dedicated to Innovations in Slovakia because the Slovak republic and mainly SIEA puts great effort into supporting innovations with the aim to contribute to low carbon energy future. As Mr. Artur Bobovnicky, SIEA, pointed out in his presentation, the main pillars of SIEA in this mission are:

1/Operational Programme Quality of Environment – Sustainable development of Low carbon economy in Slovakia; 2/Operational programme Research & lnnovations – Creating of stable environment, research and development as main pillars for sustainable development; 3/BIDSF – Management of the funds for decommissioning of Bohunice Nuclear Power Plant; 4/H2020 – Participation at various international projects as consortia members and leading partners.

According to Kristina Korcekova, CIVITTA Slovakia, many energy innovative start-ups have grown in Slovakia during several last years and they continuously work on smart and green solutions. She mentioned EIT INNOENERGY as one of the most inspiring.

During the seminar, an attractive topic, as definitely Energy storage and Hydrogen is, showed up and presented by Mr. Marian Smik, Slovak battery alliance and Mr. Peter Hegedus, National hydrogen association of Slovakia.

Finally, SIEA succeeded to fulfil the main objective of the Virtual thematic seminar in Bratislava. Speakers gave clear and detailed overview of Slovak national policies related to RES and EE and furthermore participants could learn good practices how to contribute to Low Carbon Future.
