On 15th December 2021 took place online on the Zoom Platform the SHREC stakeholder meeting organized by PP5 – Piemonte Region. Around 30 stakeholders participated to the two-hour event during which several topics were discussed.
Firstly, Filippo Baretti – Piemonte Region – illustrated the changes introduced by the transposition of the European Directive RED II on energy communities into the Italian National Law. Innovations that will introduced in the near future by the Italian Recovery and Resilience Plan were also discussed.
Then regional stakeholders briefly presented the pilot projects of Pinerolese, Val Susa, Valle Maira, Monviso and Province of Cuneo’s energy communities debating, in particular, about the territorial extension of energy communities, powers of eligible plants, integration between existing and new facilities and involvement of citizens and other local actors.
Finally, a concrete example of European excellence in the field of energy communities was presented by Søren Hermansen - CEO of the Samsø Energy Academy (Denmark). In particular, Mr. Hermansen illustrated how over the course of 10 years, the Island of Samsø, situated in the hearth of Denmark, transformed its energy supply to become 100% self-sufficient through the use of renewable energy. Now the Island is heading towards phasing out the use of fossil fuels by 2030.
Topics discussed, the debate among participants and the Danish illustrated good practices made the event extremely stimulating and fruitful.
