In November 2019, project partner BAMEE organised the National Assembly of Ecologists from municipalities in Bulgaria. The main focus of the Assembly was on waste management.
Presentations were given by representatives of the Ministry of Environment, NGOs active in waste management (like Za Zemyata, Gorichka and others), and mayors of municipalities applying good practices in waste management.
Thanks to the support of the French Institute, the conference presented good practices from France. Other important topics were the Circular Economy Action Plan adopted by the EC in 2015, the new legislation adopted this spring 2019 by the European Parliament on plastics, measures against air pollution, urban noise and how it can be measured, early warning systems, and more.
On 28 November 2019, the SMART WASTE project was presented to more than 70 participants. This was the first stakeholder meeting in Bulgaria. The project context eco-innovation was discussed and the participants agreed with the definitions used by SMART WASTE project partners:
ECO-INNOVATION is:
• Any form of innovation, both new technologies or new approaches;
• Reducing impacts on the environment;
• Achieving more efficient and responsible use of natural resources.
