The Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, Population and Territory of the Junta de Extremadura (Regional Government) will launch this year a new call for granting agro-industrial incentives for an amount of 25 million euros, once Brussels gives the green light to be able to make modifications to the Program of Rural Development (PDR).
The eligible aid for these new funds, corresponding to Next Generation Programme, will have to be destined to measures related to the green and circular economy or technological innovation.
This is the fourth call for agribusiness incentives issued by the Junta de Extremadura in the last 4 years. The global amount of these aids, adding all the calls, amounts to 101.5 million euros, destined to support investments for the transformation, commercialization or development of agricultural products in the Extremadura agri-food industry. Thanks to these grants, the companies have leveraged a global investment of more than 400 million euros.
Specifically, the 2021 call will include aids for companies that want to introduce RES, efficiency in the use of natural resources or reduce the inputs used in the production process. On the other hand, companies that establish greater technological innovation or digitization in the industry will also be eligible. Also those that contribute to reducing the emissions of greenhouse gases or the carbon footprint.
The role played by the agri-food industry in the Extremadura economy is vital, both for its contribution to added value and for its weight in terms of job creation. The importance of this sector makes it necessary to implement actions such as these agroindustrial incentives that result in its own sector development.
