Empower partners’ accompanied by their stakeholders attended Santander Study visit on 7th and 8th of March 2018.

The first day was mainly focused on Santander as Smart city, therefore, city strategy was presented together with main projects that are being carried out to transform Santander in a real Smart City. Some of these projects are:  Smart Water project focused on the Smart management of water municipal service; Streetlight project which includes the LED refurbishment of the whole streetlight in the city (more than 22.000 points of light), and the Smart city platform, which will allow to develop the integrated city management, optimizing all urban services from the point of view of the city as a whole. After visiting the Smart City Demonstration Center, where attendees could interact with sensors and services running in the city, they enjoyed a city-tour seeing how technology has been integrated within the city, including parking sensors, environmental sensors, parking pannels, transportation totems, fill-level sensors deployed in refuse containers,...

The second day was more focused on stakeholders. The vice-chancellor of Campus, Services and Sustainability of University of Cantabria presented the status of Energy consumption in Public Universities; some national SMEs presented their experience and projects, such as ESCAN and Monsol. Then, the Environment and sustainable mobility city councillor joined us during the coffee break.  Finally, several utilities presented their experience and solutions in terms of energy efficiency, such as Viesgo and Naturgas Energy.
