Discussing EMAS implementation situation in Estonia
On 21st February 2022, the Ministry of the Environment that is responsible for EMAS policy in Estonia and SEI Tallinn, who runs ENHANCE project in Estonia held a meeting to discuss the COVID impacts on implementation of EMAS. In Estonia the main impact that COVID had on EMAS implementation was the delay in audits and need for partly remote auditing due to lock-down periods. However, there has been a high number of EMAS registrations in recent years, as a result of ENHANCE project, mainly at the waste management sector. This has created the delays in the verification process, the time gap between the registration and EMAS statement and increased the workload of verifiers and the EMAS competent body.
