The first MOMAr Tour taken in South Bohemia focused on further use of Tichá keep/fort. Tichá fort is maintained and run by Castles on Malše River Association (HNM). Tichá itself has recently undergone a restoration during which a new tower top was re-created and the whole structure conserved. Only traditional techniques were used, including timber-framed walls with clay-filled panels, hand-cut timbers, or the absence of iron nails in the roof supporting structure.
The fort will be open to visitors, the interiors will be completed by the history of the site and display of artifacts found during archeological research. The tower-top space will be also used for occasional expositions or chamber concerts. However, the development strategy of the whole Tichá village and its beautiful surrounding landscape is being developed and examples from MOMAr can come in handy when evaluating the possible ways to go. The fort is still closed for visitors since the official opening is planned for May 2022.
MOMAr Tour, attended by RERA experts and members of MOMAr team, met with HNM manager Mr. Radek Kocanda, who is in charge of the renovation itself and area development plan. The Tour showed not only the current state of the property but, more importantly, future plans and management models to be implemented. Near future plans include completion of the heritage site to allow visitors to come (a re-creation of paths, navigation signs, street furniture, info panels, etc.) and further development. Several activities like school excursions, summer camps, and carpentry workshops are among the activities under consideration. A new technical building was built to provide space for a small office, box office, refreshment point, etc. so it doesn’t interfere with the historical building, leaving it completely void of modern fixtures.
Despite being new, even the technical building is built in the style of the fort itself (e.g. Middle Ages). In fact, it is a stone building with a shingle roof, quite indistinguishable from medieval barns for an untrained eye. It perfectly fits the area and doesn’t ruin the medieval feeling of the fort. The technical building provides a hall that can be used for small conferences, meetings, presentations, or exhibitions.
