The Extremadura Energy Agency, ENERSELVES lead partner, has been invited to participate in a follow-up session of the Committee on Industry, Transport, Research and Energy (ITRE), organized by the European Parliament next February 22 in Brussels.

In this session, the MEPs will review the application of the legislative measures launched in November 2016 in the "Clean Energy for all Europeans" package, also called the Winter Package.

Among the legislative measures to be analyzed are those related to the promotion of self-consumption in buildings, which will be discussed both from the point of view of technical feasibility according to the new market trends, and from the point of view of the analysis of the support received in the different Member States.

Extremadura will address the Winter Package measures related to electrical self-consumption in buildings, especially through photovoltaic technology. This opportunity comes from collaborations that Extremadura has underway with other countries of the European Union in the promotion of renewable technologies. The Director of the Extremadura Energy Agency, Cosme Segador, will be in charge of presenting different success stories in public support for technology in different European countries, as well as the analysis of the most frequent barriers identified by the promoters. Specifically, AGENEX leads the ENERSELVES initiative to identify and analyze the best mechanisms to support self-consumption in buildings.

The ENERSELVES project "Political instruments for self-consumption of buildings" is financed by the Interreg Europe Program with 2 million euros for 4 years. In addition, Extremadura leads, at European level, other 2 initiatives to promote self-consumption and energy efficiency in buildings. The initiatives FINERPOL (Interreg Europe) and HousEEnvest (Horizon 2020) intend to mobilize more than 40 million euros of financing for the sector of energy rehabilitation in Extremadura in the next 4 years, including specific lines for photovoltaic self-consumption.

The session, which will last approximately an hour and a half and can be followed online, will also include representatives of the International Renewable Energy Agency, the World Green Building Council, the International Agency for Energy Efficiency and Air Conditioning, and the CleanTech Business Platform of Austria.
