Spain will have a greater integration of renewable energy through self-consumption after yesterday approved the elimination of the so-called 'sun tax' in Parliament.

From now on, the self-consumer will have a free way to enjoy the energy generated and consumption in their own installation and will have a right to share the self-consumption with one or more users.

The measure has been applauded by environmental groups, organizations and projects such as ENERSELVES project, which defend and promote renewable energies.

What was the 'sun tax'?

The 'sun tax' is the rate that had to pay the titles of the contracts of electric consumption. This was stipulated in 2015 by means of a royal decree and the payment of a tax for the general electricity network and the maintenance of customers who use photovoltaic panels to generate their own energy.
