Our sixth Transnational Learning Journey is approaching!
The Lombardy Region will be hosting the LCA4Regions partners from 22 to 24 November. The topic of this new exchange of experience and insight is on the use of LCA to monitor and evaluate policies.
Well-established literature and research regularly highlight the need of measuring the circular economy and its implications. Nonetheless, most monitoring frameworks focus mainly on measuring materials and waste production whereas a key aspect of circular economy is its multi-dimensional aspect, which makes it necessary to identify new targets and indicators. Circular economy policies must be supported by more than just macro indicators on materials, waste and recycling. This is where LCA has a role to play.
Cities and regions are already taking important steps to make the link with the possible impacts on people, planet and society, by analyzing carbon footprint of material flows and linking circular economy strategies with localization of SDGs. Also the sustainable development strategies, developed at national, regional and local level call for a system of indicators capable of detecting crosscutting effect of policies and activities.
Could integrating life cycle thinking and life cycle analysis in monitoring frameworks facilitate the overall process and make these frameworks more efficient to enhance the environmental and social impacts of circular economy? Should cities and regions (and other stakeholders) discuss monitoring framework? Is there a concrete use in pushing for more LCA approach when monitoring the circular economy?
Join our next TLJ to reflect with us on the role of LCA for monitoring and evaluating policies.
Some of the sessions of the TLJ will be open to all while others will be only for the LCA4Regions partners and stakeholders. It will also be possible to join online this event, a link will be sent to registered participants.
