On Friday 13 December 2019, the first regional stakeholder event of the LCA4Regions project was carried out in the Navarre at the Department of Rural Development and Environment. The aim was to introduce the regional state of the art regarding life cycle approaches and to work on a SWOT analysis (weaknesses, threats, strengths and opportunities) with stakeholders.
23 persons from different organisations: local and regional authorities, clusters, research institutions, experts and SMEs took part in the meeting. These stakeholders cover a wide range of sectors: paper, packaging, waste, training, building, agri-food, consultancy and renewable energy.
The event was opened by the David Sotillo, the LCA4Regions coordinator who introduced the regional analysis and good practices identified in Navarra.
The event raised the need to overcome barriers, such as general lack of knowledge in the region about the scope and usefulness of life cycle methodologies, inertia in decision-making on the development of products and services or poor institutional support to those agents that are currently working out these methodologies.
On the positive side, it was emphasized the growing interest in these methodologies within civil society and private sector, highlighting in this last one the good health of Navarra’s industry, its capacity of innovation and its tendency to the adoption of measures aimed at improving its environmental footprints.
To sum up, a fruitful event that gave Navarre partners and stakeholders energy to continue working in this innovative project.
