On Friday 3 of July, was held the 2nd stakeholder event in Navarre. The aim of this meeting was to present the main results of the Transnational Learning Journey, focused on resource efficiency, and share opinions and opportunities that Navarra could take advance thanks to the knowledge learnt along the LCA4regions project.
It started with a brief presentation about the project, followed by the policy context of Navarre and the actions taken to align its policies with the Green Deal, making of Europe a sustainable economy. The results of the 7 regional analysis benchmarking were showed highlighting the SWOT analysis in the project regarding LCA and the transferability opportunities between regions.
During the TLJ, two experts on life cycle methods, Fritz Balkau and Ramy Salemdeeb, presented their point of views, therefore, the main conclusion swere exposed. In addition, it was mentioned the International Carbon Metric tool that ACR+ and Zero Waste Scotland are developing to help cities and regions estimate the carbon impacts of waste.
The meeting continued with the presentation of the 14 good practices identified in the project and the two study visits on resource efficiency.
Finally, a deeper talk on Navarre policies regarding life cycle approach were carried out. Navarre has done a big effort to fight against greenhouse gas emission for more than fifteen years and include carbon footprint in policies. During the meeting was mentioned the next steps foreseen by the region; include and develop other life cycle tools or methods that integrate other impacts than carbon.
Some stakeholders commented the importance of elaborating a life cycle assessment in an organization that wants to take into account circular economy criteria in their strategies. “It is the first step to know how your enterprise is and where you can improve in the development of your products”. Public policies are essential to incentive these practices.
