The BürgerEnergiegenossenschaft Karlsruhe Ettlingen has existed since 2012 and develops and implements local and regional energy projects with renewable energies. The BEG focuses on the expansion of PV systems. The number of members has grown by over 40 to 320 cooperative members since the end of 2020 (as of September 2021).

The number of PV plants has also been expanded by four more to currently 33 PV plants. This means that the total output in 2021 has increased by almost 176 kilowatt peak (kWp) to a total of almost 1.5 MWp in 2021. Solar power generation for 2020 amounts to 1,088 megawatt hours (MWh). In 2022, the 2 MWp limit is to be exceeded. The close cooperation between the city of Ettlingen, the Ettlingen public utility company and the local building cooperatives is steadily advancing the cooperative's goals.

This form of citizen participation offers the opportunity to actively participate in the energy transition. A welcome alternative especially for citizens who cannot or do not want to install a PV system themselves - participation is possible "for every budget". In addition, the energy cooperative strengthens the regional value-added cycle.

The picture shows the installation of the almost 80 kWp PV system on the roof of the Albgau indoor swimming pool, whose electricity production is estimated at around 80 MWh per year.
