Several objectives and actions included in the Mehedinti Waste Management County Plan are drawing from lessons learnt and experiences exchanged so far with WINPOL.
With most of the good practices already identified, partners are already thinking of the changes that they could bring to their local policies to improve their waste management system and increase their performances towards higher sustainability. Slowly the first lines of action plans, to be implemented in 2021, are drawn. Which practices caught the attention of each project partner? Which changes are currently being assessed? What is the current impact of WINPOL at local level?

A new territorial strategy for managing waste in the Mehedinti County called the Mehedinti PJGD 2019-2025 (Mehedinti Waste Management County Plan) has been approved at the end of January 2020. Several objectives and actions included in the PJGD are drawing from lessons learnt and experiences exchanged so far with WINPOL. For example, one of the specific objectives of the PJGD is the implementation of new tools and methods forecasting waste generation as well as intelligent equipment for the management of municipal waste, establishing the objectives and targets for the categories of waste that are the object of planning at the county level.
Using some of the practices identified by WINPOL, Drobeta Turnu Severin municipality and Mehedinti Country Council are now working on developing some of the measures of the PJG, such as:
- Implementation of a pay-as-you-throw economic instrument;
- Support and development of existing actions regarding the individual composting of bio-waste;
- Reduction by half of food waste by 2025;
- Preventing the generation of printed paper waste;
- Introduction in the school curriculum for pre-university education of topics related to the prevention of household waste generation.
