WINPOL helped Snaga on a very concrete point, included in the Waste Management Strategy of Maribor: equipping the old city centre with an underground waste collection system.

With most of the good practices already identified, partners are already thinking of the changes that they could bring to their local policies to improve their waste management system and increase their performances towards higher sustainability. Slowly the first lines of action plans, to be implemented in 2021, are drawn. Which practices caught the attention of each project partner? Which changes are currently being assessed? What is the current impact of WINPOL at local level?

WINPOL helped Snaga on a very concrete point, included in the Waste Management Strategy of Maribor: equipping the old city centre with an underground waste collection system, to be used with identification, filling sensors, data collection, new billing system, definition of collection areas, implementation plan in conjunction with reconstruction works in the city etc. Once the new collection system will be implemented, the focus will be put on developing a new approach for the fee model of the areas covered by the (semi)-underground system. The third WINPOL Thematic Seminar on innovative tariffication comes right on time!

The expected benefits brought by this change are many, all contributing to a reduced environmental impact: less waste collection routes, optimized collection because of IT supervising system, no more bins on the streets in old city town, higher collection rate, higher quality of separate collected fractions, less littering…
