For the fourth year in a row, Green Friday is back, and stronger than ever! Created by Envie in 2017 as a reaction to the consumer event ‘Black Friday,’ Green Friday seeks to raise awareness of the need for a more reasonable, responsible and ethical approach to production and consumption.

Appealing to the idea of free will, Green Friday challenges citizens to rethink their consumption habits, successfully preventing waste by boosting re-use and repair practices across many different fields. The many social enterprises involved refrain from commercial actions that harm the environment, showing consumers an alternative to impulse buying, and ultimately a fairer and more ethical option to Black Friday.

In parallel, Green Friday emphasises the importance of social inclusion. Numerous social and solidarity enterprises taking part in this initiative provide valuable training and employment opportunities to people at risk of socio-economic exclusion, demonstrating how the social economy invests into people over profit.

For the first time, the RREUSE Network is an official member of the Green Friday movement, along with its Belgian member RESSOURCES who joined the campaign for the second year in a row.

Indeed, the Green Friday campaign amplifies and grows, with events all over Europe from France to Belgium and Germany to Ireland! And this is only the beginning. The Green Friday coalition intends to make the last Friday of November a date to remember in the fight against over-consumption. We’re proud to offer an alternative and mark this occasion so that one day, Black Friday and its self-destructive logic is a thing of the past.
