On 4-5-6 November 2020, the Municipality of Heraklion organised the distribution of home composter to a selected group of 100 citizens. This action is part of the A2UFood project which proposes a holistic management scheme in which all aspects of reduction, reuse, and recycling of food waste are included.
In addition to the composter, each future user received directions on the procedure for having a high quality compost from the Hellenic Mediterranean University. They also received a thermometer that should be put in the composter in order to monitor if everything is going well. Thanks to a phone application, the indication of the temperature of each composter will be sent to a database maintained by the University to check if the composter is operated.
Representatives of WINPOL joined the distribution to inform citizens about the project and share leaflets.
