Experts from the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Innovation industry gathered by ERA in Malta on 29 October 2019 called for a nationwide big data system while discussing current technologies and systems within the waste sector. They agree that such a system would be ideal over a regional system, provided that information is captured and then shared at Local Council level as well as with the relevant stakeholders and the general public. Participants also highlighted the implementation of intelligent systems such as the ones put forward by the WINPOL project as complicated due to the cost associated to it.
This meeting was one of the local events organised by WINPOL partners on their territories. In July Greek ICT experts also had the opportunity to discuss the practices identified by WINPOL. They reflected on the needs of the Municipality of Heraklion and the Region of Crete to optimize the current management system and in particular waste collection and data logging. Participants agreed that education, science and public instruments must join forces in order to have a better future regarding waste management. In the Mehedinti County Council the Romanian event gathered young students from the Drobeta Turnu Severin University Center from the University of Craiova. Participants learned more about examples of good practices implemented by the project partners or discovered by WINPOL during the study visit in Imola, Italy.
Every semester more of these events are taking place. Check when is the next one by having a look on the events section of the website.
